Porcelain Veneers Can Finally Close That Front Teeth Gap

June 26, 2019

front teeth gap Plenty of celebrities have noticeable gaps between their front teeth, and for people like Michael Strahan, Samuel L. Jackson, and even Madonna, it works, but you don’t really like seeing this in your own mirror every morning. Fortunately, thanks to cosmetic dentistry, that space doesn’t have to be permanent. Using the best porcelain veneers on Long Island, Dr. Allan Mohr can easily give you that perfectly balanced smile you’ve wanted for years and turn your gap into a distant memory.

Why Do I Have a Gap in the First Place?

There is actually an official name for the space visible between two teeth when they are too far apart: a diastema. It is extremely common, and here are some of the reasons it can develop:

  • There is a mismatch between the size of the jawbone and the teeth.
  • The teeth are naturally undersized (which is most often the case for the front teeth)
  • An oversized labial frenum, which is a small band of tissue that connects the upper lip to the gums. If it’s too large, it can actually block the front teeth from coming together properly.
  • Long-term thumb sucking
  • A tongue thrust, which is an incorrect swallowing reflex. Instead of the tongue pressing against the roof of the mouth while swallowing, it pushes against the teeth, which can gradually move them over time.

How Can Porcelain Veneers Help?

Porcelain veneers act like little masks, in that thin sheathes of ceramic are bonded to the front of the teeth in order to improve their appearance. In addition to fixing problems like stains, chips, and cracks, they can also help close gaps without using orthodontics, which is why they are often referred to as “instant orthodontics.”

Getting them is simple. Once a patient lets their dentist know that they want to get rid of the space between their front teeth, the dentist will slightly reshape the teeth so the veneers will lay flat, and then he’ll take an impression. This is sent to a dental lab to make the veneers, and the patient will be fitted with temporary veneers while this is happening. A week or so later, the patient will return to the office to have their veneers placed, instantly making the gap disappear behind a confident smile.

Minnie’s Story

Minnie was one of the millions of people dealing with this annoying flaw, but porcelain veneers were able to provide the exact results she wanted. In her words:

“For years, I wanted to fix the gap between my front 2 teeth, but I had been hesitant to do so, thinking why mess with my real teeth? I also had a couple of chipped teeth that bothered me, too (even though it was minor)… I decided to go see Dr. Mohr to see what he could do. He showed me a photo of what my teeth would look like with veneers and promised the outcome would be the same as the photo. After a little time to think about it, I decided to do it. I am certainly glad I did! Looking in the mirror, I was really satisfied with the outcome, but it didn’t really hit me until after visiting my family and taking group pictures, did I notice how nice my smile was. Thank you Dr. Mohr for my beautiful smile!”
